Day 8 Behavioral Adaptations- Living in Groups Materials: interactive notebooks, pencils, crayons Objectives: Students will: learn that some types of animals live in groups in order to survive identify and list 3 animals that live in groups explain why these animals live in groups explain how living in groups helps animals them survive We've already learned that migration and hibernation are behavioral adaptations. Explain that another behavioral adaptation is living in groups. Write down the reasons why animals live in groups- to take care of young, to hunt for food, to defend each other from predators, etc. Have the students make 2 columns on the right side of interactive notebook. Then, project this great website that lists animals and their "group" name. We are going to pick 10 of these animals and group names to write down, in the same 2 column format as the website. Pair up the students and assign them one of the animals that we wrote down. With their partner, label, draw and color a group of these animals on a piece of blank paper. Then write why they think living in groups helps this animal survive. The pairs will share their information with the class. *If there is access to the internet or other resources, they could use them to find information about their animal.
